#WheatHarvest16 Underway
Hi all! Katie here. Wheat harvest started with a bang last week but has been suspended after three different rounds of rain and hail forced us out of the field. Thus far we have cut about 340 acres of wheat. Some of it good, some of it great and some of it damaged by hail and heavy rains.

Derek, his father, our hired man and oldest son, Evan, stop for a picture before heading back to the fields to enjoy supper and continue cutting.
The rains did allow for a weekend with our farm but an idol farmer during harvest makes for a restless farmer. Everyone is hoping to return to the fields tomorrow. We have a total of 1,000 acres of wheat so are expecting at least another week to 10 days of cutting.
As in the past, harvest is a family affair with my husband and his father manning the combine and grain cart, respectively, and our oldest son, Evan, riding whenever there is an open seat and a willing host. I deliver lunch and supper to the fields, make sure everyone is hydrated and surprise the crew with the occasional snack and cold treat.
